 "description": "These species grids represent the interpolation of the 5' x 5' Sightings per Unit Effort (SPUE) point files for marine mammals, turtles, and large pelagic fish in the NYS Marine Spatial Plan. The SPUE for each species or grouping represents the number of sightings per 1000 km of trackline. This metric allows for the accommodation of uneven survey effort in the study area. The species grids allow for a continuous surface of SPUE to help visualize the patterns in the study area. Ordinary Kriging with a gaussian model and a smoothing neighborhood of 20 km was used to model these distributions from the regular 5' grid to a continuous surface. The values of the resulting dataset are a magnitude lower than the original points, consequently, we provide an assessment of classifying the top 20% of the values in the supplemental technical document. The name of each file identifies the species or grouping represented in the dataset, the first four characters refer to the species.
